　　釈名　李時珍曰く、蛺蝶（きょうちょう）は軽薄にして翅を夾（はさ）んで飛び、ひらひらと舞う様である。蝶は鬚（ひげ・触角）を美とする。

粉蝶（ふんちょう）

　　一名　採花使〔出典：『典籍便覧』〕

　　集解　李時珍曰く、蝶と蛾は同類である。大きいものを蝶と言い、小さいものを蛾と言う。その種類は甚だ多く、いずれも四枚の翅を持ち、粉（鱗粉）をまとっている。花の香りを好み、鬚（触角）を以て鼻の代わりとする。

　　Explanation of Names: Li Shizhen states — The *jiédié* (蛺蝶, butterfly) is light and delicate; it flies with its wings pressed close together, fluttering in an airy manner. The butterfly is distinguished by the beauty of its antennae (*須*).

　　Collected Explanations: Li Shizhen states — Butterflies and moths are of the same category. The larger ones are called *dié* (蝶, butterflies); the smaller ones are called *é* (蛾, moths). Their varieties are exceedingly numerous; all have four wings covered in powder (scales), love the fragrance of flowers, and use their antennae in place of a nose.
