　は甲申（キノエサル）の日を用へしなをいそきおもはゝきのえ

　とくあけてとくはつへし春の日はうはくも

　本儀（ホムキ）は柳櫻松 鶏冠木（カヘテ）この四本也其外梅も常（ツネニ）#1

現代語訳

甲申の日を用いるのが良い。なお急ぐ場合でも、たとえ甲（きのえ）でなくとも申（さる）の日を必ず用いるべきである。また風が強くなく、雨が降らないことをもって良い日と申すべきである。春は遅く蹴り始めて遅く終わり、夏は早く始めて早く終わる。春の日は曇りがちで風が吹かないのを最上の日と申し、夏は日が照って少し風が吹くのを良い日と申す。おおよそ愛好者たる身には時節を分けるべきではない。昔の人は月前灯下（月明かりや灯火の下）でも蹴鞠をしたのであろうか。また拾遺納言が七千日まで下向されたが、そこに置き残された鞠も四季の間に退転することはないであろう。とても秋が更けてから興ざめなことがあってはならない。

一、懸の事
本来の作法では柳・桜・松・鶏冠木の四本である。その他に梅も常に用いる。柳は辰巳（南東）、桜は丑寅（北東）、松は戌亥（北西）、鶏冠木は未申（南西）である。梅はいずれの隅にでも廉（かど）の方によりがあるべきである。四つの角には艮（うしとら・北東）の木から植え始めるのが習わしである。もし丑寅の木がまだ若しくは

One should use the day of kinoe-saru (31st in the sexagenary cycle). Even when in haste, if not kinoe, one must invariably use a saru (monkey) day. Also, a day without strong wind and without rain should be considered a good day. In spring, one begins late and finishes late; in summer, one begins early and finishes early. For spring days, cloudy weather without wind is called the finest day; for summer, sunny weather with a light breeze is called a good day. Generally speaking, for devotees, one should not divide the seasons. Did people of old play kemari even under moonlight or lamplight? Also, when the Supplementary Middle Counselor was away for seven thousand days, the balls left there would not deteriorate during the four seasons. It would be most unseemly for anything disappointing to occur deep in autumn.

1. On the Suspended [Trees]
The proper arrangement uses four trees: willow, cherry, pine, and cockscomb tree. In addition, plum is also commonly used. Willow is placed in tatsumi (southeast), cherry in ushitora (northeast), pine in inui (northwest), and cockscomb tree in hitsujisaru (southwest).
