第十章
正月・二月頃、元株が四、五年に及んだものを約五寸ほど地中に残る部分から切り取り、周囲に肥料およそ五合を施せば、季節の寒暖に従って新芽が発生し、八、九寸から一尺一、二寸に成長した枝条の葉を摘み捨て、先端の芽のみを残して地中に曲げて土で覆っておく。第一、二、三の図のとおりである。
第十一章

成長した枝に覆った土を取り除いて見ると、初めに曲げて地中に入れた枝に髭根を生じているのをそのまま刈り取る。第五図のとおりである。
第十二章
刈り取った枝条の先端を全長の三分の一切り取り、根の部分も適宜に剪定し、髭根二寸を残して余分を切り捨て、土を一尺余り掘って圧条を挿し挟み、肥料に塵芥の類を入れて土で覆い、しっかりと地を固めておくのである。

Chapter Ten
Around the first and second months, cut the original stock that has reached four to five years at about five sun remaining in the ground, and apply approximately five gō of fertilizer around it. Following the seasonal temperature changes, tender shoots will emerge and grow to eight to nine sun or one to two shaku. Remove the leaves from these branch shoots, leaving only the terminal buds, bend them into the ground and cover with soil, as shown in figures one, two, and three.

When the soil covering the grown branches is removed, fibrous roots can be seen growing from the branches that were initially bent and buried in the ground. These are harvested as they are, as shown in figure five.
Chapter Twelve
Cut off one-third of the total length from the tip of the harvested branch shoots, also trim the root portion appropriately, leaving two sun of fibrous roots and cutting away the excess. Dig the soil to a depth of over one shaku, insert the layered cuttings, fill with fertilizer and refuse materials, cover with soil, and firmly compact the ground.
