その石を四隅に積み築いて、あたかも花壇のようにし、この中心に圧条を植えて良質の土を入れれば、根株は長大になり枝条が繁茂する。初めにその盛んな枝を伐採し、遅れたものが続いて繁茂するため、一株で数回の用に供すると言われている。
第二十五章
上野の諸村では蚕の時期には他国より男女多くの人を雇い、昼夜休む暇がないので、葉を摘んだ枝条は薪に用いるのみである。蚕卵紙も信州で製造されたものを買って用いている。今年島村にて信州より製紙工を雇い、山家より楮皮を採って初めて一万二千枚の種紙を漉製することができた。

[按]陳が言うには、薪に使う養蚕残余の桑条を用いる時は、楮皮を買う費用がないのみならず、輸送の労を省き、利益が多いであろうと田嶋武平に物語ったところ、彼は直ちに桑条を採って製し試みたところ、思ったより早く製することができた。そのために再び諭して言うには、どうして蚕種紙のみであろうか。そもそも島村を距ること数十歩に利根河の流れの急なるところがある。これは造化の賜物である。今この河水を汲み上げ、水機車を設けて人力を省き、桑条をもって諸々の美紙を製出すれば、一家の豊かな産業となる。汝それ努めよ。幾千百年廃れ
