上野国は気候が温和な地域であり、古来より養蚕業を営む者が最も多い。中でも佐位郡島村の蚕種は優良であり、羽前の米沢、岩代の梁川、信濃の上田と並んでその名を知られている。佐位郡中の近隣の村々でこれを模範とするものが多い。
第二章

島村は利根川にまたがり、支流がその南北を取り囲む一村落である。平時に河水が静かな時は広々とした田畑であるが、長雨の季節には桑畑が変じて海となる災害を免れない。
[按]当年三月中約五日間の雨により河水が氾濫し、数百町の桑畑を浸水させて長く支流と化し、昨日の支流が今日の田畑となった。これは直接目撃したところである。

Among these, the silkworm eggs of Shimamura in Sai District are of excellent quality and share fame with Yonezawa in Uzen, Yanagawa in Iwashiro, and Ueda in Shinano.
