一 我が国の養蚕の起源について詳細を知ることはできないが、始
めて神代巻に養蚕のことが記載され、その後歴代の史書に
散見される。思うに上古の時代に既にこの事業があったこと
が証明できるほどであり、決して海外から伝来したものでは
ないことが分かる。ただ、その事業の多くが農民の手に属し
ていたため、正確な記録がなく、その由来を明らかに知るこ
とができない。しかしながら、これを古代に遡り、類例を推
し求め、根源を探れば、その源因を考究することもそれほど
難しくはない。しかし今、この書においてはそれを必要な急

Brief Introduction to the Sericulture Compendium
1. Although we cannot know the detailed origins of sericulture in our country,
it was first recorded in the Age of Gods chronicles, and thereafter appears
scattered throughout the official histories of successive dynasties. We can
see that this industry already existed in ancient times, sufficient evidence
to know that it was certainly not something transmitted from overseas. However,
since this industry was largely in the hands of rural people, there are no
precise records, making it impossible to clearly understand its origins.
Nevertheless, if we trace back to antiquity, seek similar cases, and explore
the roots, investigating these source causes would not be extremely difficult.
