蚕室及器械ノ形状ハ図ニ著スト雖トモ其大小広
狭ニ於テハ其貧富ト生産ノ多少ニ因リ損易ス

第二十章
蚕室及び器械の形状は図に示すといえども、その大小広狭については、その貧富と生産の多少によって変更すべきであることは論を待たないところである。その要点とするところは、蚕室に朝日夕陽が直射しないことと、厳寒酷暑を防ぎ、室中蒸発の気を停滞させないことに注意すれば、大きな失誤はないであろう。

器械についてもまた同様である。今この書に模写した図は、すべて上野で用いられているものである。また、その地方の便に応じるのを良策とすべきである。試しに蚕籠の便否について以下に掲げる。
図に示す蚕籠を信濃で用いるものと比較すれば、ほぼ一倍である。ある人が言うには、「大きな蚕室を設け、強壮な雇い人に養わせるのが最も良い」と言うが、もし貧しい家の狭小な室で行うならば、小さなものを良しとすべきである。これは柔弱な婦女にも運搬に便利である、と。これは実に適切な説であろう。

Chapter 20
Although the shapes of silkworm rooms and equipment are shown in diagrams, it goes without saying that their size and dimensions should be modified according to one's wealth and the amount of production. The essential points are to ensure that the silkworm room is not exposed to direct morning and evening sunlight, to protect against severe cold and heat, and to prevent stagnation of vapor in the room. If attention is paid to these matters, there should be no major errors.

The same applies to equipment. All the diagrams illustrated in this book are those used in Kōzuke Province. It should be considered good policy to adapt according to local convenience. As an example, the advantages and disadvantages of silkworm baskets are presented below.
When the silkworm basket shown in the diagram is compared with those used in Shinano Province, it is nearly twice the size. Someone says, "It is best to establish large silkworm rooms and have strong hired workers tend them," but if working in the small rooms of poor households, smaller ones should be preferred. This is convenient for delicate women to handle. This is indeed a very reasonable opinion.
