Chapter 12
Number 19 shows the true form of the pupa as seen when cutting open the cocoon. Figure one of Number 20
shows what has transformed into a pupa after three days of cocoon completion.
Figure two shows what has half-shed the old skin of its previous life after five days.
Figure three shows the state of complete molting after seven to eight days.
Those from four to six show the gradual changes in color and luster.
Chapter 13
Figure one of Number 21 is a female pupa, figure two is a male pupa. Figure three

shows the form that has already transformed into a moth and half-shed its old appearance. Figure four
shows the form of shedding when boring through the cocoon and crawling out, leaving
the old skin behind in the cocoon during emergence.
Chapter 14

front view of a female moth. Number 23 shows the form of laying eggs.

Number 24 shows how black marks first appear on the pupa body, eventually producing maggots,
later drying and hardening, and when dissected, already having the physical form of a fly
