梅毒・疥癬を何度も患うのは、その度々に外から受けて病気になるのではなく、初めて感染した毒を完全に発散し尽くさないために、身体の中に潜んでいて時々発症するのである。前に述べたように、病気は人ごとに天稟（生まれ持った体質）の毒気に濃淡・厚薄があるだけでなく、正気と毒気との調和・不調和ということがある。この調和するかしないかと、天稟毒気の濃淡・厚薄は、病気の進行の緩急・軽重・安危の源であって、病状の千変万化は皆ここに基づくのである。この天稟毒気と調和・不調和を観察しないために、古今の医流はすべて万病が一生に一患であることを知ることができないのである。まず痘瘡は毒気が極めて猛烈であるために、一度その気に感染すれば、正気と毒気が激しく戦って発熱・煩悶し、痘瘡が正気に追われて皮膚の外へ発症すれば正気が安らかになって熱気が解消する。たとえ痘瘡が重症でも正気が勝つ者は、決められた日数で膿となり、かさぶたとなり、穢れ

悪の気を脱ぎ去って身体の中に少しも残らない。もし正気が敗れて毒気を発散させなければ、たちまち死ぬ。たとえ発症しても正気が弱って膿気が少しでも内部に陥入する者は必ず変証をなす。臓腑に陥入する者は下痢が激しく、正気が尽きて危険である。この時やむを得ず渋薬を用いて下痢を止めると、毒気が徐々に肉分に復帰して、腫瘍が骨節に集まり、膿が潰れて痘瘡の膿の万倍になる。あるいは毒気が眼に集まり、あるいは牙疳となり、その害は様々である。このようになるのは皆、毒気と正気の戦いが激しく、実に火と水のようであるため、しばらくも正気と和合して人の身体の中にとどまらず、外に発症するか内に陥入するかの勝敗を決するからである。ゆえに一度患えば天稟の毒気は自然に尽きて、生涯二度と患わないのである。麻疹も正気と戦って天稟の毒気を発散し尽くすゆえに二度と患わないのは痘瘡と同じであるが、毒気は少し穏やか

The reason syphilis and scabies are contracted multiple times is not that one receives the infection anew from outside each time, but rather because the poison from the initial infection is not completely expelled and remains hidden in the body, manifesting from time to time. As mentioned before, diseases vary from person to person in the concentration and intensity of their innate toxic qi, and furthermore, there is the matter of harmony or disharmony between vital qi and toxic qi. Whether this harmony exists or not, along with the concentration and intensity of innate toxic qi, forms the source of the urgency or slowness, severity or mildness, and safety or danger of diseases, and all the myriad transformations of disease conditions are based on this. Because ancient and modern medical schools fail to observe this relationship between innate toxic qi and harmony/disharmony, none have been able to understand that all diseases occur only once per lifetime. First, because smallpox has extremely violent toxic qi, once infected by it, the vital qi and toxic qi engage in fierce battle, causing fever and distress. When the smallpox is driven by vital qi to manifest on the skin's surface, the vital qi becomes peaceful and the fever subsides. and evil qi, leaving nothing remaining in the body. If the vital qi is defeated and cannot expel the toxic qi, death occurs immediately. Even if it manifests, if the vital qi weakens and any purulent qi penetrates inward, abnormal symptoms will inevitably develop. When it penetrates the organs, severe diarrhea occurs and the vital qi is exhausted, creating danger. At this time, one is compelled to use astringent medicine to stop the diarrhea, but then the toxic qi gradually returns to the flesh, tumors gather in the bones and joints, and when the pus ulcerates, it becomes ten thousand times worse than smallpox pus. Sometimes the toxic qi gathers in the eyes, or becomes dental gangrene, causing various harms. All this occurs because the battle between toxic qi and vital qi is so intense—truly like fire and water—that they cannot harmonize and remain in the human body even briefly, but must decide victory or defeat through either external manifestation or internal penetration. Therefore, once the disease occurs, the innate toxic qi naturally becomes exhausted and one never contracts it again in their lifetime.
