く正気と調和する所があるゆえに、発症しきれなかったものは痢病を患い《割書：麻疹の流行る時に度々世間に痢病が流行することがある。これは皆その余毒である》、また肌膚に滞って乾燥性疥癬となり、あるいは肉の部分に滞って腫瘍となり、あるいは肺臓に滞って痰と咳が治りにくい。麻疹の余毒は医書にまったく論じられていないので、その余毒であることを知る医者は稀であろう。これは皆正気と毒気とが調和することで、痘瘡とは少し異なる所である。なかでも梅毒は非常に正気と調和するゆえに、深く毒気に感染しても痛みも痒みもなく、寒熱もせず食欲不振もせず、気分に変わることもなく、無病な人と変わらない。一度病気が治った後、また改めて病気になるように見える者があるが、全く前の毒気の再発であって、新たに病気になるのではない。その証拠は、二度病む者に便毒・楊梅瘡などの外面的な症状を患う者はなく、皆喉・鼻・筋骨あるいは下疳《割書：下疳とは陰茎が漸々に腐り落ちることをいう。陰瘡・陰爛をも下疳というのは誤りである》の類の深く重い症状ばかりを患うのである。このような毒気が身体の中にありながら

疼痛・痒み・寒熱・食欲不振の煩いもなく無病のようであるのは、毒気が正気と調和するゆえではないか。疥癬は毒気が最も軽く、治療しなくても甚だしい害はない。かえって摩り薬・温泉・薬湯などで毒気が内攻し、水腫となって時には死ぬ者がある。よく毒気を発散する薬を服用して毒の抜けた人は、再びその病人に触れ近づいても病気になることはない。毒気の残る者は何度も病気になる。俗に「疥癬三年」というのも、この病気の治るべき時期の大体であって、痘瘡・麻疹の日数を限るのと長短の違いがあるだけである。これは皆その病気に特に緩急・軽重の勢いがあるのは、正気と毒気とが調和するか戦うかの差別である。一度天稟の毒を発散し尽くした後、二度とその病気を患わない証拠は、今梅毒を患う者を見よ。治療を法の如くにして、よくその毒気を除き尽くせば、いかほどその病気ある者に親しんでも、二度とこれを病むことはない。治療がよくなくても正気の盛んな者はその毒

Because there are areas where it harmonizes with vital qi, those who cannot fully manifest the disease suffer from dysentery《marginal note: When measles epidemics occur, dysentery often spreads among people. This is all due to residual toxin》. It may also stagnate in the skin and flesh, becoming dry scabies, or stagnate in the flesh and become tumors, or stagnate in the lungs, making phlegm and cough difficult to cure. Since residual toxin from measles is never discussed in medical texts, physicians who recognize it as residual toxin must be rare. This is all due to the harmony between vital qi and toxic qi, which differs somewhat from smallpox. Among these, syphilis harmonizes extremely well with vital qi, so even when deeply infected with toxic qi, there is no pain or itching, no chills or fever, no loss of appetite, no change in mood - no different from a healthy person. When someone appears to contract the disease again after recovering once, it is entirely a recurrence of the previous toxic qi, not a new infection. having no troubles of pain, itching, chills, fever, or loss of appetite, appearing as if healthy - is this not because the toxic qi harmonizes with vital qi? Scabies has the mildest toxic qi, and even without treatment causes no severe harm. On the contrary, with rubbing medicines, hot springs, or medicinal baths, the toxic qi may attack inward, causing dropsy and sometimes death. Those who take medicines that effectively expel toxic qi and have the poison removed will not become ill even if they touch or approach such patients again. Those with remaining toxic qi will become ill repeatedly. The common saying "scabies lasts three years" refers roughly to the time this disease takes to heal, differing from smallpox and measles only in duration. This is all because each disease has particular momentum of progression (gradual or rapid) and severity (mild or severe), which is the difference between toxic qi harmonizing with or battling vital qi. The proof that once constitutional toxin is fully expelled and exhausted, one never suffers the disease again can be seen by observing those who currently suffer from syphilis. If treatment follows proper methods and thoroughly removes the toxic qi, no matter how much one associates with those who have the disease, they will never contract it twice. Even with poor treatment, those with vigorous vital qi have their toxin
