In all cases, diseases like smallpox and measles completely expel constitutional toxic qi in one occurrence because the vital qi and toxic qi harmonize and the battlefield is not severe - in reality, all diseases occur only once in a lifetime. Even with formless pathogenic qi like typhoid fever and epidemic diseases, observe carefully: following sweating and diarrhea, qi and blood both shake, the organs and meridians are cleansed, and after disease toxin penetrates inside and outside, those who recover do not suffer the same disease twice. Those who occasionally suffer the same disease multiple times necessarily have areas where the previous illness did not penetrate inside and outside and toxic qi was not exhausted. Not only diseases, but all things between heaven and earth follow the principle of one life, one death - nothing dies and lives again. Those who rarely revive did not truly die; their vital essence was not yet exhausted. Because people do not understand the universal principles of yin-yang, creation, and the cycle of life and death, they become confused by the varying urgency and severity of diseases based on the presence, absence, and concentration of constitutional toxic qi and the harmony or discord between vital qi and toxic qi.

Each disease has its own pace (urgent or gradual) and severity (light or heavy), creating different disease patterns, yet people are confused by this. They merely count the days of smallpox and measles, and seeing that one suffers once in a lifetime, think it a mysterious and inexplicable disease - this is extreme thoughtlessness.

Those who suffer smallpox and measles simultaneously are called "sandwiched measles-pox" because measles is sandwiched within smallpox. Not only are smallpox and measles sandwiched together, but when there are outbreaks of smallpox and measles on top of existing diseases like syphilis, scabies, typhoid fever, or epidemic diseases, these become sandwiched and cause suffering. Compared to those without disease, the harm is naturally greater.
