一 痘瘡（とうさう）流行（りうかう）の風説（ふうせつ）あらば先（まづ）家内（かない）の者（もの）に痘瘡（とうさう）は香觸（かぶれ）ての

恐（おそろし）き病（やまひ）にて近（ちか）よれば香觸（かぶれ）て死（しに）もし痘顔（もがほ）にもなり盲人（めくら）
にもなり廢人（かたは）にもなる事を毎日（まい ）幾度（いくたび）もいひきけておそるゝ
やうに教訓（きやうくん）すべし正直（しやうじき）なる兒心（こごゝろ）にて恐怖（きようふ）して遠（とほ）ざかるゆへ
に甚（はなはだ）禦方（ふせぎかた）の便（たより）となるなり
一 痘瘡（とうさう）流行（りうかう）する時（とき）はすべて親類（しんるい）知音（ちいん）の方（かた）へ痘瘡（とうさう）を避（さくる）よ
しを豫（あらかじめ）話説（はなし）おきて裞（いはひ）#1の品（しな）食物（しよくもつ）など何（なに）によらず痘瘡（とうさう）全（ぜん）

一 痘瘡流行の風説があれば、まず家内の者に痘瘡は接触感染でのみ
病気になるものであるから他の病気より逃れやすい旨を丁寧に教えるべき
である。痘瘡前三歳以上、言語を聞き分けがあるようになってから、痘瘡は
恐ろしい病気で近寄れば接触感染して死にもし、あばた顔にもなり、盲人
にもなり、身体障害者にもなることを毎日何度も言い聞かせて恐れる
ように教訓すべきである。正直な子供心で恐怖して遠ざかるため
に非常に防御方法の助けとなるのである。
一 痘瘡流行する時はすべて親類知人の方へ痘瘡を避ける
旨を予め話しておいて、祝いの品や食物など何によらず痘瘡完全
快復の後までは贈ることを厳しく断るべきである。もし贈る者

があれば急いで水に流すべきである。痘瘡家でも贈り物をするのは非常にひどい悪事
である。その贈り物で伝染して死ぬ時は人を殺すことに当たる
からである。
一 世間で第一の心得違いは軽い痘瘡は軽く感染すると思う
ために軽い痘瘡に慣れ親しんで近づくことである。これは非常に悪いことである。すべて病気の
毒気は火のようで人の身は薪のようである。少しの火より大火となるのと同じ
である。軽い痘瘡でも接触感染する人の性質に痘毒の深い者
は忽ちその身を焦がすのである。一間の家で三人四人が枕を並べて
病気になりながら軽い重いさまざまなのを見て、軽いものに接触感染して軽く
ならず、重いものに接触感染して重くならないことを知るべきである。とりわけ
