ことであろう。その積立金を用いれば、土地の大小に従って避痘（痘瘡を避けること）の備えは、どのようにでも十分であろう。
麻疹の伝染も痘瘡と変わることがないので、予防方法も痘瘡と変わることはない。ただし痘瘡は常に国々を巡回して絶えることがないが、麻疹は毎度外国から伝来するため、大体二十年ごとに隔てて流行する。したがって生涯三度四度の流行さえ防げば、たとえ麻疹で死ぬべき運命の命であっても六七十年の寿命を保つ理屈であるから、痘瘡よりも防ぎやすい。
右の条々に記したように、痘瘡・麻疹流行の時のみ注意を払えば、一生決して伝染せず、免れやすい病気である。古来より痘瘡・麻疹が完全に伝染性の毒気によることを一言半句も説くものなく、ただ天の運行による時疫で胎毒を発するという医書の偽りが、ついに世上の俗習となって人間生涯一度の大厄となった。医は病人に薬を与えるのみにも限らず、まだ病まざるを治すという古人の教えもあるので、身の見識の浅さを顧みず、世人がこれより痘瘡に慣れ親しむ俗習の悪しきを知って、痘瘡を避ける風俗となることを希望するのみである。

This would be the case. Using those accumulated funds, preparations for smallpox avoidance would be sufficient in any manner according to the size of the locality.
The transmission of measles is no different from smallpox, so prevention methods are also no different from smallpox. However, while smallpox constantly circulates through countries without cease, measles is transmitted from foreign countries each time, generally with epidemics occurring at intervals of about twenty years. Therefore, if one can prevent just three or four epidemics in a lifetime, even a life destined to die from measles could maintain a lifespan of sixty to seventy years, making it easier to prevent than smallpox.
As recorded in the above articles, if one pays attention only during times of smallpox and measles epidemics, these are diseases that one will definitely never contract in one's lifetime and can easily avoid. Since ancient times, no one has explained even a word about smallpox and measles being completely due to contagious miasma. The falsehood in medical texts that they are merely seasonal epidemics caused by celestial movements that trigger fetal toxins has finally become a common custom in society, making it a major calamity once in a human lifetime. Medicine is not limited to only giving medicine to the sick; there is also the teaching of ancient people about treating those who are not yet ill. Without regard for my own shallow learning, I only hope that people will come to know the evil of the custom of becoming familiar with smallpox and that it will become a custom to avoid smallpox.
