木香花（モッコウカ）
予曰く、
木香と称する者は草なり。葉に皺（しわ）ありて、鶴虱（つるしらみ）および
牛蒡（ごぼう）に似て狭く長し。その形は紫苑の葉のごとし。黄花を
開く。花は菊に似たり。青木香・南木香ともいう。馬兜鈴をも
青木香という。薬類なり。この当木（とうぼく）に木香の名の
ある事、群書に記されざれども、諸人木香と云う。

Tanshunga (探春花) — pronounced Mokkōka
Mokkōka (木香花)
My own note:
What is called "Mokkō" (木香) is in fact an herb (草). Its leaves are wrinkled,
resembling those of Tsurushirami (鶴虱, Torilis japonica) and
burdock (gobo), being narrow and long. The shape of the leaf
is similar to that of Shion (紫苑, Aster tataricus). It produces yellow flowers,
which resemble chrysanthemums. It is also called Aomokkō (青木香)
or Minamimokko (南木香). The plant Madourei (馬兜鈴, Aristolochia)
is also referred to as Aomokko (青木香). These are all medicinal plants.
That this particular tree (Mokkōka) bears the name "Mokkō"
is not recorded in the various books (群書), yet everyone calls it Mokkō.
