After the divine approach (*o-mukai*) at the Fourth Month Festival, during the two occasions of opening the sacred doors, one performs a single bow before the御卯の箱 (*o-u no hako*, the Box of the Hare). Regarding the divine offerings (*o-sonae*), the *negi* (senior priests) and the *hafuri* (officiating priests) each prepare theirs separately. Chopsticks are provided only on the *negi*'s side. First, cooked rice is offered, then below it another serving of rice, followed by a complete set of *oni-mochi* (demon rice cakes), *tanpopo-mochi* (round rice cakes), and the like — all arranged to the right side of the offering table as one faces it. Next, six sea bream are placed, then further items in sequence. If there is a surplus, items may be stacked, or placed on the lower shelf. There is a single-level shelf four sun below, and another single-level shelf eight sun below that. The *hafuri* priests place their offerings on their own designated shelving. One item: At the *Miare-dokoro* (the Place of Divine Birth/Manifestation) during the Fourth Month Festival, the *norito* (ritual prayer) for the presentation of offerings begins: "The envoy bearing offerings this day…." After that, when the *jinin* (shrine servants) bring the sacred chest (*o-hitsu*), the *norito* recited at the moment of taking the *saki-nusa* (leading ritual wands) from within the chest is: "*Mukai tamae, mukahe tamō*" ("Turn toward us, turn toward us"). Note that although there are five *saki-nusa* inside, approximately seven are taken. After this, when the *jinin* bring the sacred *sakaki* branches, the *saki-nusa* are tied onto them — one to each branch, attached to five branches in total. The *norito* recited at the time of tying is: "*Utsuri tamae, utsuri tamō*" ("Transfer unto us, transfer unto us").
