**[Right Folio]** *(Continuing from the previous page)* "…and since it is difficult to enter freely [due to the height difference], the shrine priest has ruled that [the floors] should be made equal, etc. Is this not an unprecedented change (shinji)?, etc." [Saemon said:] "The kiri-to (切戸, small inner door) that has been handed down — *[annotation: the upper wall-board on the eastern side of the southeast (Tatsumi) direction]* — this is the door through which the heavenly yang energy (tenki) and divine spirits (shinrei) pass and communicate. Since it receives the yang energy of Heaven, it should perhaps be of circular (eight-directional) form. However, from ancient times it has been four-sided (square), which is the symbol of Earth and Yin. Furthermore, in the floor planking of the Qian (乾, Ken) direction — *[annotation: beneath the western side]* — there is one opening/hole, and this is the aperture through which the yin energy of the earth (chiki) and terrestrial deities (giryo) pass and communicate. Since it receives the yin energy of Earth, it should perhaps be of square form. However, from ancient times it has been a round hole, which is the symbol of Heaven and Yang. Thus, the door through which the heavenly deities (tenjin) pass is located above and takes the form of an Yin-square door; the opening through which the terrestrial deities (chigi) pass is located below and takes the form of a Yang-circle hole. This is the profound and secret oral tradition (hiku-ketsu) of this shrine. In the shrine of the Kōji era, [the construction] was not at variance with this oral tradition. During the Kan'ei [reconstruction], as the shrine priest was [a man named] Mochiひさ (用久), perhaps because he did not know this secret oral tradition, **[Left Folio]** it is unclear whether or not the round hole existed, etc. For this [current] reconstruction, [Saemon] transmitted [the teaching] that the round hole should be made in strict secrecy. This is the secret oral tradition (hiku-ketsu) transmitted orthodoxly from the elders of this shrine, [originating with] the Hafuri clan of Kibune [Shrine]. It must be kept secret, etc. The three inner-sanctum oral traditions (naijin no san-kuden) are matters of exceedingly profound significance, things not yet known to [most] people. For this [current reconstruction], it is said that the shrine priest Ho (保) and Mori Korehisa (森維久) conferred and discussed all matters including the shrine relocation ceremony (sengū). Whether both of these persons have received the legitimate orthodox oral transmission of these traditions is unclear — what is the situation?, etc." Saemon then withdrew [and the meeting concluded]. --- *One entry:* The Denjuki (transmission record) of Sueharu no Agatanushi states: "At Kibune Shrine, there is a hole in the floor planking, located in the Inu-I (戌亥) direction [northwest]. Its name is called the 'Kushi-do' (櫛戸, comb-door), and it is the foremost oral tradition of the shrine. [This applies] only to Kibune Shrine. In this shrine [i.e., Kamo Shrine], there is a kiri-to hole in the eastern floor planking, and this too is a [secret tradition] of this shrine…" *(text continues on the following page)*
