[Right folio]
When Emperor Uda was still known as the Ō no Jijū (Prince-in-waiting as a royal attendant), he was hunting along the banks of the Kamo River, when the deity of the Kamo Grand Shrine appeared before him and entreated him to establish a special extraordinary festival (rinji-sai). He replied, "I know nothing of such matters — please petition the Emperor directly." However, not long after, he found himself unexpectedly ascending to the Imperial throne. Accordingly, from the eleventh month of Kanpyō 1 (889), the rinji-sai was instituted and duly observed. It is transmitted that the imperial envoy dispatched on that occasion was the Minister of the Hon'in, Lord Tokihira (Fujiwara no Tokihira), at the time still serving as Udaishō (Right Middle Captain of the Imperial Guard).
Regarding the matter of the Saiin (Virgin Priestess):
In the first year of Kōnin (810), during the reign of Emperor Saga, Imperial Princess Uchiko was appointed as the divine representative (mitashiro) and installed as the presiding priestess (hōsai) of the Kamo Grand Shrines — both Lower Kamo and Upper Kamo. This is also recorded in the Engishiki. The Naiki-shiki (Inner Secretariat Regulations) states: "All

senmyō (imperial proclamations) are to be written on yellow paper. However, documents addressed to the Ise Grand Shrine are to be written on light blue (hanada) paper, and those addressed to the Kamo Shrine are to be written on crimson paper." We consider this to be a distinction without parallel elsewhere.
Regarding the matter of the shinden (sacred rice fields) and fuko (tribute households):
In the third year of Taika (647), during the reign of Emperor Kōtoku, fourteen households (en) of shrine dependents (kamube) and one chō of sacred rice fields (shinden) were dedicated to the shrine. Since that time, the sacred fields (mitashiroda) were incrementally increased, and notably,
In the first year of Kannin (1017), during the reign of Emperor Go-Ichijō, by imperial vow the entire district (kōri) of Atago-gun in this province (Yamashiro Province) was donated in its entirety (nakara — wholly) to both the Lower and Upper Kamo Grand Shrines, with four districts (kashō) formally designated. This is attested in old records including official documents (kanpu) and imperial proclamations (senmyō).
Furthermore,
On the fifth day of the Fourth Month in the second year of Jōryaku (1078), during the reign of Emperor Shirakawa, six members of the Mikuriya-dokoro (御厨子所, the shrine's kitchen office) responsible for the preparation and presentation of food offerings (zōbe) were [established/appointed — text continues].
