• Bunka 10 (1813), Year of the Rooster, 1st month: Having excelled in learning and showing skill beyond his years, he was rewarded with copies of the Kōkyō (Classic of Filial Piety), Daigaku (Great Learning), Shisho Shūchū (Collected Commentaries on the Four Books), and Shōgaku (Elementary Learning).
• Same year (Bunka 13, 1816), Year of the Rat, 5th month: As his late father Tanji had years of meritorious service, and had worked particularly hard when sent to Edo on procurement duties that spring, in consideration of both circumstances, his late father's stipend was maintained without reduction, and he was recruited into the Second Minor Construction Group (ni-no-kofushin-gumi) for training in the arts.
• Bunpō 2 (1819), Year of the Rabbit, 12th month: Due to personnel changes, he was appointed to the New Guard Group (shinban-gumi).
