富商並鸚鵡の傳
昔し富商ありけるが美婦を娶り夫婦／最（いと）睦（むつま）しく
霎時（しはし）の程も離るゝに忍びざりしが避くべから
ざる事出で来たり旅立つこととなりけるに冨商
は其／性（さが）嫉妬（しつと）深かりければ一策を案じ出し市頭
に一羽の鸚鵡を購ふたり此鸚鵡は希世の名鳥
にして一回見たることは日を過ぐれとも強記（よくおほ）へ
問ふ事あれば荅へざることなきの美質あり是れ
屈竟なりと家に携へ来り妻には唯 平常（ ｜あたりまへ）の鸚鵡

お前のために、これを語ろう。
富商並びに鸚鵡の伝
昔、富商がいたが、美しい妻を娶り、夫婦はとても睦まじく、しばしの間も離れることに耐えられなかった。しかし避けることのできない事情が生じて、旅立つことになった。富商はその性質が嫉妬深かったので、一つの策を考え出し、市場で一羽の鸚鵡を買った。この鸚鵡は世にも稀な名鳥で、一度見たことは日が過ぎても良く覚えており、問うことがあれば答えないことはないという美質があった。これは素晴らしいと家に連れて来て、妻には単に普通の鸚鵡

The Tale of the Rich Merchant and the Parrot
Long ago, there was a wealthy merchant who married a beautiful wife, and the couple was so harmonious that they could not bear to be apart even for a moment. However, unavoidable circumstances arose and he had to depart on a journey. Since the merchant was by nature deeply jealous, he devised a plan and purchased a parrot at the marketplace. This parrot was a rare and remarkable bird that could remember well everything it had seen even after days had passed, and possessed the fine quality of being able to answer any question put to it. Thinking this was excellent, he brought it home, but told his wife it was merely an ordinary parrot
