の如く言ひ做し余が身と思ひ此鳥を汝が室に
珍重して飼置玉へと言𭇥めて旅立ちしがさて
家に歸り妻のあらさる時を窺がひ吾が旅行中
何事か家内に起りしやと種々の事を尋ね問ふ
たるに鸚鵡は其妻の隱事を洩さず語りにけれ
ば富商はさもあらんと其妻の歸り来るを待構
へて其穢行を譴（せ）め鞭笞して之を懲したるに妻
は更に承服せず無根の讒言を聴き妄りに潔白
の名を汚せり抔と其夫の薄情を怨み唧（かこ）ちて爭
ひ遂げ。さて自から思ふやふ余が密事を何（いか）にし

のように言い、「私の身代わりと思って、この鳥をあなたの部屋で大切に飼ってください」と言い聞かせて旅立った。さて家に帰り、妻のいない時を見計らって、「私の旅行中に何か家で起こったことはあるか」と種々のことを尋ね問うたところ、鸚鵡はその妻の秘密事を漏らさず語ったので、富商は「そうであろう」とその妻の帰りを待ち構えて、その不義を責めて鞭で打って懲らしめた。すると妻は全く承服せず、「根拠のない讒言を聞いて、みだりに潔白な名を汚した」などとその夫の薄情を怨み嘆いて争った。さて自分で思うには「私の秘密事をどのようにして

When he returned home, he waited for a time when his wife was absent and asked various questions: "Did anything happen in the household while I was traveling?" The parrot told him every detail of his wife's secret affairs without omission. The merchant thought "It must be so" and waited for his wife to return, then reproached her for her misconduct and punished her with a whip. But the wife would not accept this at all, complaining and lamenting her husband's heartlessness, saying things like "You listened to groundless slander and wrongfully sullied my pure reputation," and they quarreled. Now she thought to herself, "How did he learn of my secret affairs?
