より續くことよと思へば頻りに駿足に鞭うち獵
夫山を見ざるの喩の如く峻坂危径の嫌ひなく
心を鹿に奪はれて驀直（まつしくら）に逐ひたりしかども鹿
は逸足にして遂に之を見失なひ馬を駐めて初
めて心付き首を延して後方（あとべ）を展眸（ながむれ）ども續く者
とては一人もなく身は唯獨り廣漠たる濤山（うねやま）の
中に佇立（たゝず）めり王子は忽ち懼を懐き聲を限りに
呼び號#1べども荅ふるものは幽禽と喬木の風に
戰（そよ）ぐの音のみなり王子は益畏懼甚しく疾く歸
路を求めんと右に馳せ左に馳せて愈深く迷ひ
現代語訳
に続くことよと思えば、頻りに駿馬に鞭打って狩りを続けた。猟夫が山を見ざるの喩えのように、険しい坂や危険な道も気にかけず、心を鹿に奪われて真っ直ぐに追いかけていった。しかし鹿は足が速く、ついにこれを見失ってしまった。馬を止めて初めて気がつき、首を伸ばして後方を眺めても、続いてくる者は一人もなく、身はただ独り広漠たる起伏の山の中に立ち尽くしていた。王子は忽ち恐れを抱き、声を限りに呼び叫んだが、答えるものは奥深い鳥と高い木が風にそよぐ音のみであった。王子はますます畏れ恐れることが甚だしく、急いで帰り道を求めようと右に馬を走らせ左に馬を走らせて、いよいよ深く迷ってしまった。

...thinking he must keep up, he frantically whipped his swift horse and continued the hunt. Like the proverb of the hunter who sees no mountain, he paid no heed to steep slopes or dangerous paths, his heart captivated by the deer as he pursued it straight ahead. However, the deer was fleet of foot and he eventually lost sight of it. When he stopped his horse and first came to his senses, stretching his neck to look behind him, there was not a single person following, and he stood alone in the midst of vast, undulating mountains. The prince suddenly felt fear and called out at the top of his voice, but the only response was the sound of distant birds and tall trees swaying in the wind. The prince's fear and terror grew ever greater, and seeking urgently to find the way home, he rode right and left, becoming ever more deeply lost.
