所に忽ち心身腦乱し手足を悶躁（もが）き苦痛を叫ん
て横に倒れ其まゝ息は絶へたりける銅盤の頭

不思議なことだ。この時銅盤の頭は眼を開き「陛下、その冊子をお開きになりませんか」と言ったので、居合わせた官僚たちは驚き怪しまない者はいなかった。さて王は冊子を開こうとしたが、ページがくっついて開きにくかったので、指に唾をつけて開いて第六ページに到ったところ、ただ白紙だけだったので、王は頭に向かって「銅盤よ、第六ページには一字も読むべきものがないぞ」と尋ね問うたところ、「さらに数ページをお開きください」と答えた。王はしきりに指先に唾をつけて数ページを開いたところ、たちまち心身が錯乱し、手足をもがいて苦痛を叫んで横に倒れ、そのまま息が絶えてしまった。銅盤の頭は

How strange indeed! At this time, the Copper Plate's head opened its eyes and said, "Your Majesty, will you not open that book?" All the officials present were astonished, and there was not one who was not bewildered. Now when the king tried to open the book, the pages were stuck together and difficult to open, so he moistened his finger with saliva and opened it to the sixth page, where there was nothing but blank paper. The king asked the head, "Copper Plate, there is not a single character to read on the sixth page," to which it replied, "Please open several more pages."
