　　り、その牛痘の良性を変化させるに至るという。
第十八　種痘に四季の差別はないとする。炎暑や厳寒の
　時期でも種痘すべきである。ただし寒冷の時期においては風邪を
　引きやすいので、あらかじめ防御の手段があるべきである。
　　○ある説では、夏の乾燥した時期においては種痘を受けた後の
　　起座や外出は自由にして構わない。しかしながら冬季は
　　特にこれに注意すべきであるという。
第十九　痘苗は牛痘を人に伝種した痘から取っても、また直接
　牛から取っても、その性質や効果に異なることはない。ただその伝
　種する間に善性で純粋な者を選んで移植すれば

　何万人でもその性質が変わることはない。
　　○ある説では、牛痘は人体に種痘しても、その本来の性質
　　を失うことはない。なぜなら人体に種痘した牛
　　痘を用いて再び牛に伝えて種痘すると同種の痘を
　　発するからである。
第二十　天然痘流行の時にあたって種痘するに、その気（病気の原因）が
　すでに全身に感染しているときは、その流行の病気を免れる。まして
　種痘部位がすでに痘の形を現すに至っては、さらに
　天然痘を感染し合併するようなことはない。

Article 20: When inoculating during an epidemic of natural smallpox, if the miasma has already infected the entire body, one will be spared from that epidemic disease. Moreover, once the inoculation site has already manifested the form of pox, there will be no such thing as additionally contracting natural smallpox and having it combine with the inoculated pox.
