第十三日・第十四日 中央のかさぶたが全体を覆って外縁に
及び、疱の液もまた完全に乾燥して固まる。
第十五日・第十六日 痘のかさぶたが茶褐色となり、第二十日
から第三十日の間にかさぶたが落ちる。
以上のように順序立てて経過するものは、いわゆる真痘の
徴候であって、決して再び天然痘にかからないことは疑い

第二十四 痘苗を移植して種痘するには、腕から腕に直接伝えて
種痘するのを最良とする。これは多くの場合、術を誤らない
ことによる。しかしながら、僻地にあっては種痘すべき
日程を間断なく続けることができないので、常に良性痘が
ある時にその苗を貯蔵し、不足の際の用に供する
べきである。すなわち貯蔵の方法は種々あり、以下に示す。
その一 一寸四方ほどのガラス板二枚を取り、各内面
に痘液を塗布して、これを合わせ、その合わせ目を密に

Day 12: The red halo greatly diminishes and disappears, the thin fluid inside the vesicles becomes thick, and small scabs form at the center of the pox. This condition sometimes appears on the eleventh day.
Days 13-14: The central scab completely covers and extends to the outer edges, and the vesicle fluid also completely dries and solidifies.
Days 15-16: The pox scabs become tea-brown in color, and the scabs fall off between the twentieth and thirtieth days.
Those cases that progress in the orderly sequence described above represent the symptoms of so-called true pox, and there is no doubt that they will never again contract smallpox.

Article 24: For transplanting and inoculating pox matter, direct transmission from arm to arm is considered best. This is because in most cases it avoids errors in technique. There are various methods of storage, which are presented below:
Method 1: Take two glass plates about one inch square, apply pox fluid to the inner surface of each, join them together, seal the joint tightly with paste, or apply melted pitch to seal the outside.
