一大災患を免れることができるのは、誰もが楢林君の力に頼るところであり、その功績は偉大である。しかし、楢林君もまた恐れていることがある。それは、郷里の草医や学問の浅い医者たちが、いい加減に伝授し、でたらめに種痘を行って、人々を誤らせることである。そのため筆をとって書に著し、「牛痘小考」と名づけて門生に授け、専ら百発百中を要とした。これを読めば、その方法は詳細であるが、その要点は非常に理解しやすい。《割書：私は》言った。「楢林君は牛痘の嚆矢であり、家祖は西学の先駆者である。このような祖先があってこのような後裔があるのだから、名家と言われるのである。

However, Narabayashi also fears that country doctors and those of shallow learning and inferior techniques might transmit the method carelessly and practice vaccination recklessly, thus misleading the people. Therefore, he took up his brush to write a book titled "A Small Study on Cowpox Vaccination" to teach his disciples, focusing specifically on achieving infallible success. Upon reading it, one finds that while the method is detailed, its essential points are very easy to understand. 《Marginal note: I》 said: "Narabayashi is the pioneer of cowpox vaccination, and his family ancestor was the forerunner of Western learning.
