現代語訳

駕籠

全国で国王のみが肩輿を用いており、中国の様式を模している。十六人担ぎまたは八人担ぎで、駕籠の上には屋根と帷幕が中国と同様に設けられている。国相・法司以下はすべて二人担ぎの肩輿で、様式はみな背が低く小さい。駕籠の上部に担ぎ棒を取り付け、二人が前後で担ぐ。駕籠の高さは三尺ほどを超えず、底に席を敷いて胡坐をかいて座る。遠くから見ると籠のようである。前の使節である汪楫の記録に「その中に人がいるとは分からない」とあるが、まことにその通りである。貴族の中にも精巧に作られたものを用いる者がおり、羅漢杉の木を用い、彫刻を施し銅で装飾し、錦で縁取り、絵を描いた裏地に紗や縠で覆いを作るが、その高さや大きさは同じである。

国中には車がない。山谷の地形には適さないからである。

Palanquins

Throughout the country, only the king uses a shoulder-carried palanquin, which follows the Chinese style. It may be carried by sixteen people or eight people, with a canopy and curtains on top of the palanquin, all just like those in China. The prime minister, legal officials, and those below all use two-person shoulder palanquins, all of which are low and small in style. Carrying poles are attached to the top of the palanquin, and two people carry it from front and back. The height of the palanquin does not exceed about three shaku, with matting on the bottom for sitting cross-legged. From a distance, it looks like a basket. The previous envoy Wang Ji recorded that "one cannot tell there is a person inside," which is indeed true. Some nobles also use finely crafted ones, made of arhat pine wood with carving and copper decorations, brocade borders, painted linings, and covers made of silk gauze, but their height and size remain the same.

There are no wheeled vehicles in the country. The mountainous and valley terrain is not suitable for them.
