不相立方令不審候得共挨拶ヘ行廻り
無言ニ罷在再三詰之候上盗候ニ者無之

大小取上奉公御構江戸日光京大坂両御

現代語訳
申し訳が成り立たないことを不審に思ったが、挨拶に行き回って無言のまま座っており、再三問い詰めた上で「盗んだのではないが恐れ入る」と申したものの、白状はしなかった。しかしその疑いを逃れることは難く、本来であれば厳罪に処すべき者であるが、否定も肯定もできずに無言でいる様子から、性質が愚鈍な者であることを考慮して寛大な処置により一命を助け、大小（刀）を取り上げ、奉公構い、江戸・日光・京・大坂両御預地・東海道・会津海道構い、他藩への阿房払いを申し付ける旨を申し渡された件

His excuses were found to be untenable and suspicious, but when questioned, he remained silent during interrogations and after repeated questioning, he said "I did not steal but I am ashamed," though he did not make a full confession. However, the suspicion was difficult to escape and he should have been punished severely, but considering that his nature appeared to be that of a simple-minded person who could neither deny nor affirm and remained silent, by merciful consideration his life was spared. His swords (long and short) were confiscated, he was banned from service, banished from Edo, Nikko, Kyoto, Osaka and both administrative territories, the Tokaido and Aizu highways, and exiled from other domains as a fool.
