現代語訳

弓は長さ七尺余りで、地面に立てると屋根の軒と同じ高さになる。矢は中国の矢より一握り分ほど短い。射る時は必ず地面に立て、的を持つ時は正中央ではなく、下の狭い部分で弦を引いて矢を放つ。皆、決と拾を用いるのは古制の通りである。射程はそれほど遠くなく、旧記録によると二百歩外を射ることについては見たことがないという。

月令

正月：桃が咲く《割書：碧桃・絳桃・桜桃がすべてこの月に開く》、長春が咲き始める《割書：四季を通じて咲くが、この月が特に盛ん》、蠶豆の新物を食べる、鶯が美しく鳴く、蛇が穴から出る、雷が始まる、雷が鳴り響く、枇杷が熟す《割書：中国と違いなく、形は少し長く棗のよう。元旦に新物を食べて百果の先駆けとする》

二月：木筆が空に向かって咲く、海棠が紅色になる、棠棣の花が咲く、春菊が香る《割書：百合・麗春花がともにこの月に開く》、月橘の実が赤くなる《割書：月桔は別名十里香といい、花は六月に開き、実は赤く房状になってこの月に木いっぱいになる》、浮き草が生え始める、田豆を収穫する、蟋蟀が鳴く、冬眠していた龍が海に出る

三月：粟蘭が香る、石竹の花が咲く《割書：玫瑰・薔薇・藤蘿・罌粟がすべてこの月に開く》、紫蘇が生える、諸々の豆の種蒔きが終わる、王瓜が市場に出る、麦が実る、虹が初めて現れる

英語訳

The bow is over seven feet long, and when stood on the ground, it reaches the height of roof eaves. Arrows are about one grip shorter than Chinese arrows. When shooting, the bow must be stood on the ground, and when holding the target, one grasps not the center but the narrow part below to draw the string and release the arrow. All use thumb rings and arm guards according to ancient custom. The range is not very far; old records state that shooting beyond two hundred paces has never been observed.

Monthly Observations

First Month: Peach blossoms bloom ⟨marginal note: green peach, crimson peach, and cherry peach all bloom in this month⟩, evergreen jasmine begins to flourish ⟨marginal note: blooms in all four seasons, but this month is especially abundant⟩, new broad beans are eaten, orioles sing melodiously, snakes emerge from holes, lightning begins, thunder sounds, loquats ripen ⟨marginal note: no different from China, shape slightly elongated like dates; eaten fresh on New Year's Day as the first of a hundred fruits⟩

Second Month: Magnolia blooms skyward, crabapple turns red, kerria flowers bloom, spring chrysanthemums are fragrant ⟨marginal note: lilies and spring beauty flowers both bloom this month⟩, kumquat fruits turn red ⟨marginal note: kumquat, also called "ten-li fragrance," flowers in the sixth month; fruits turn red in clusters, filling the tree by this month⟩, duckweed begins to grow, field beans are harvested, crickets chirp, hibernating dragons emerge to the sea

Third Month: Millet orchid is fragrant, dianthus flowers bloom ⟨marginal note: roses, wild roses, climbing vines, and poppies all bloom this month⟩, perilla grows, planting of various beans is completed, snake gourds appear in markets, wheat ripens, rainbows first appear
