く、また外国人は前年の好機会に垂涎して渡来する者が多くあったため、格別の下落もなく、まず可なりの相場で止まったのである。しかしながら、これもやはり外国人の恵みと言うべきであろうか。ああ、商売もどうか信用を失わないように、いよいよ心がけたいことである。
我が国の商人は、たまたま外国遠遊の志があっても、微力な者は一人では為し難く、富有の者は自己の利益のみを考えて、国益が結局損なわれることも考えず、衆力を合同することをかえって恥辱とする。この弊害は時として破産を招くに至る者が少なくない。そして僅かに洋商二、三十人を上回らないのに、日本全国の蚕卵がこのために盛衰を為すに至ることは、なんと悲しいことではないか。
