等は外国人が年々慣れ親しんでいることなので、横浜でよく聞き糺すべきである。
右に付き、英仏の蒸気飛脚船で、まずフランスのマルセイユという港まで送るべきである。もっとも飛脚船は船賃が高いけれども、他の船便では航海の日数が長く、機会を逸すると蚕卵が悪くなるという心配があるので、運賃の高低に代えることはできない。その飛脚船で上海、香港、フランス船であればサイゴンにも立ち寄り、シンガポール、セイロン、アデン、スエズ峡、ここから蒸気車でアレキサンドリアに至り、再び地中海を渡って、日数大凡五十二、三日でマルセイユに到着するはずである。その船賃は二百五十枚入り一箱で大凡百三十五フランである。（大凡五フラン半を一ドルとするので、一箱につき二十五ドル余りに当たる。なお船賃のことは近頃出版になった「西洋旅案内外編」という書があるので参考にすべきである。）
