波止場使用料並びに積問屋手数料少々及び船賃を払い、ビル・オブ・レーディング（英語でいう船荷証券）、コネッスマン（フランス語）という積荷受取手形を三枚積問屋より受け取るべきである。その一枚は自ら所持し、同伴者があればこれに託しておき、又は先方に然るべき者があればこれへ手紙にて送って不測の備えとし、一枚は保管しておき、荷物が彼の国へ到着の上、この手形をもって荷物を引き換えに陸揚げすべきである。もしこれがないときは、その船長は決して荷物を渡さない規則である。
このようにしてマルセイユへ到着の上、ビル・オブ・レーディングを船長に渡し、税関へ荷物調書を差し出し、検査済みの上、荷物を飛脚船問屋へ預け置くべきである。従って倉庫料を少々出すのである。

One should pay the wharf fees, stevedore commissions, and shipping costs, and receive three copies of the bill of lading (English term for shipping certificate) or "connaissement" (French term) - the cargo receipt certificates - from the stevedore. Keep one copy yourself, entrust one to a traveling companion if you have one, or send it by letter to a suitable person at the destination as preparation for unforeseen circumstances. Store one copy safely, and upon the cargo's arrival in that country, use this certificate to exchange for the cargo when unloading. If you do not have this, it is a rule that the ship's captain will absolutely not hand over the cargo.
Thus, upon arrival in Marseilles, present the bill of lading to the ship's captain, submit the cargo manifest to the customs office, and after inspection is completed, deposit the cargo with an express shipping agent. Therefore, one must pay a small warehouse fee.
