国の一ポンドに当たる故に、右為替を組めば英のポンドに直して取り組むべし。アジア州内、就中支那・日本等にては英貨の方仏貨より遥かに便利なる故なり。
船中の費用は少なくとも百ドル位は所持すべし。日本よりシンガポールまではドルを以て一般の通用銀とす。シンガポールよりスエズ峡に至るまではルピー（英の属国通用銀）という銀貨一般の通用にてポンドにするも自由に通用をなす。スエズより先きは仏貨フランクを専らとす。
メキシコドルはシンガポールより先きへは決して持ち越すべからず。大いに両替の損失多し。エジプトより此方へはフランクを持ち渡るべからず。これまた同断なり。
往年我が国人欧羅巴へ行きし節、この事を委しく承知せずして正ドルをエジプトまで持ち越せしに、千ドルに付き五十ドル損失をなせしという。

Since 25 French francs equal one British pound, when arranging the aforementioned exchange, one should convert to British pounds and arrange accordingly. This is because in Asia, particularly in China and Japan, British currency is far more convenient than French currency.
For expenses during the voyage, one should carry at least about 100 dollars. From Japan to Singapore, dollars serve as the general currency. From Singapore to the Suez Canal, a silver currency called rupees (currency of British territories) is in general use, and pounds also circulate freely. Beyond Suez, French francs are primarily used.
Mexican dollars should never be carried beyond Singapore, as there are great losses in exchange. Francs should not be carried beyond Egypt - the same principle applies.
In past years, when our countrymen traveled to Europe, not being well informed about this matter, they carried regular dollars as far as Egypt and reportedly suffered a loss of 50 dollars per thousand dollars.
