ものもあり、或いは黒くなって煙にすすけたようなものもあり、また身体を動かすこともならずして木の人形のようなものもある。ただよく睡眠をとり、よく食事をして精神が爽やかな者は、十二日の後に必ず頭頂部の間において腫毒を発し、或いは手足その他肉の厚い所へも種々の毒が多数発して生命を得るものがある。
一、八日より十三日の間に膿の臭いがあるのを良いとする。これはその内部の毒気が肌肉の外へ出て痘瘡が臭うのである。もし悪い臭いが甚だしく座敷中に満ち、人に付着し、或いは鼻を突くようなのは逆症と知るべきである。また六七日にして出た瘡がまだ十分に膿を持たずして臭気が甚だしいものは必ず凶症である。これは内部の毒が外へ出る臭いとは違って、肌肉が腐るゆえに臭いがあるので悪いとする。

一、十二三日に至り痘瘡がただれ皮がはげて膿水が流れ出て乾かないものを爛痘という。この痘瘡には赤小豆を細かく粉末にしてふりかけるのを良いとする。また蕎麦粉をふりかけるのも良い。その他の薬も多くあるといえども、みだりに用いてはならない。世俗の方法に素焼きの器を粉にしてふりかけることがある。土器は元来土であるゆえ、ただれはげて膿水が流れて日数が長く乾かなければ、また元の湿気に戻る理がある。故に用いてはならない。
一、檮杌痘というものがある《俗にうらうつ痘という》。かさぶたにかかってまた膿み返るのである。この症状は早く毒物を食べ、或いは風寒にあたり、或いは穢れた気に感じ、急に身体が熱して痘瘡がまた膿み返ることをなすのである。膿水が漏れ出て衣服の裏にしみ付いて、身体を動かすと出た瘡のかさぶたと共にはがれて膿血が流れて

1. Having the smell of pus between the eighth and thirteenth days is considered good. This is when the toxic qi from within comes out through the skin and flesh, causing the smallpox to smell. If the bad smell is severe, filling the entire room, sticking to people, or assaulting the nose, this should be recognized as an adverse symptom. Also, when pustules appear on the sixth or seventh day but do not yet contain sufficient pus while having a severe odor, this is necessarily a dangerous symptom. This is different from the smell of internal toxin coming out - it is bad because the smell comes from the rotting of skin and flesh.

1. When by the twelfth or thirteenth day the smallpox pustules fester, the skin peels, and pus-fluid flows out without drying, this is called "festering smallpox." For this smallpox, it is good to finely powder red adzuki beans and sprinkle them on. Sprinkling buckwheat flour is also good. Although there are many other medicines, they should not be used carelessly. In folk remedies, there is a practice of powdering pottery shards and sprinkling them on. Since pottery is originally earth, when it festers and peels with pus-fluid flowing and does not dry for a long time, there is a principle that it returns to its original moisture. Therefore, it should not be used.
1. There is something called "secondary eruption smallpox" 《commonly called "reverse smallpox"}}. After scabbing, it suppurates again. This symptom occurs when one eats poisonous substances early, or is exposed to wind and cold, or is affected by foul air, suddenly develops body heat, and the smallpox suppurates again. Pus-fluid leaks out and soaks into the lining of clothes, and when the body moves, it separates along with the scabs of the eruptions, causing pus and blood to flow
