Yūbin Hōchi Shinbun (Postal News) — Nishiki-e Print No. 18 [The two characters for "shinbun" appear to have been deliberately blacked out] [Lower right of the sheet] Publisher: Hon-i (Hon'ya Tame–) Shinshi-za Block carver: Hori Masa [Main text] Hisakichi, son of Kurikoma Tsuneshichi of Kōzu Shichiban-chō in Osaka, is seventeen years old this year. Last year he was sentenced to sixty days' penal servitude for theft. Even so he did not mend his ways, and in the twelfth month he absconded with ten yen belonging to his employer. Unable therefore to call on his parents or on any acquaintance, one night he was lying down in a sideshow booth at Sennichimae. Glancing beside him, he saw a girl of about ten years old lying there. Seized with lust, he recklessly forced himself upon her, but as she was only a young child she at last raised a great cry. Her screams reached the ears of a patrolling policeman, who came running and arrested him; he was later sentenced to seven years' penal servitude. This little girl was the daughter of Sugawara Mohei of Namba village, who had run away from home and had made this place her sleeping quarters. An event of the sixth month of Meiji 8 (June 1875). — Recorded by Yoshinari [Seal] Sadanobu II [Left margin of the sheet] Editor: Nishiya Motoji [Archival label (horizontal writing)] Newspaper Collection — Prints — Ho-1
