大阪新町二丁目の板倉喜兵衛という者が、雲州（出雲国）松江の旅館に逗留していたが、毎日、飲み食いと芸妓遊びに贅沢のかぎりを尽くし、千金を遣うことまるで湯水のごとくであった。しかも紙幣を使うことはいっさいなく、ただ正金（金貨・現銀）ばかりを使っていたので、これは怪しいと人目に付き（人の目に嗅ぎつけられ）、ある夜ついに捕縛されて取り調べを受けたところ、その金は、明治七年九月に大坂の三井の金庫を破って二万七千円を盗み取った、あの大盗人の金であったという。──くわしくは報知新聞に載っている。

A man named Itakura Kihee, of Shinmachi 2-chōme in Osaka, was staying at an inn in Matsue in Unshū (Izumo Province). Day after day he indulged to the utmost in food, drink, and the company of geisha, spending a thousand pieces of gold as freely as if it were hot water or cold. Yet he never used paper money — only hard coin — and this drew suspicious eyes upon him (his scent, as it were, was caught by watchful eyes). One night at last he was seized and interrogated, whereupon it emerged that the money in question was the loot of that great robbery in which, in the ninth month of Meiji 7 (1874), the strongbox of the Mitsui house in Osaka was broken open and twenty-seven thousand yen carried off. — The full details are given in the Hōchi Shinbun.
