築地一丁目十番地に住む山口県士族（出身）の山本たでを（種雄か）は、深川万年町二番地の木村おふくという女と不義の関係を結んでいた。ところがおふくは先頃、桜田伏見町の福井某の家へ来て住み込み、しきりに福井とも密通して妊娠してしまった。だが、どちらの子種か分からず、双方掛け合っている最中、五月二十九日に山本が伏見町を通りかかったのをおふくが見つけ、山本を日傘で打ち叩いて大騒動をやらかしたのである。

Yamamoto Tadeo (Taneo?) of Yamaguchi Prefecture, residing at No. 10, Tsukiji 1-chōme, had been carrying on an illicit affair with a woman named Kimura Ofuku of No. 2, Fukagawa Mannen-chō. Recently, however, Ofuku went to live at the house of a certain Fukui in Sakurada Fushimi-chō, and there she repeatedly committed adultery with Fukui as well, and became pregnant. Since it was unclear whose child it was, the parties were in the midst of negotiations when, on the twenty-ninth day of the fifth month, Ofuku spotted Yamamoto passing through Fushimi-chō, beat him with her parasol, and caused a great commotion.
