Tokyo Nichinichi Shimbun, No. 736 Drawn by Ikkeisai Yoshiiku Kishida Ginkō, in order to gather news reports, accompanied the army to Taiwan and stayed there for more than two months. Some time after the various aboriginal tribes had surrendered, he took a walk through the territory of the Botan "raw savages" (unassimilated aborigines). On his way back, as he was about to ford the mountain stream at Sekimon (Stone Gate) and was starting to take off his boots, a native came up and offered to carry him across on his back. Ginkō declined, but since the man would not take no for an answer, he climbed onto the fellow's back — whereupon the man proved too weak even to stand up. In the end the two of them simply burst out laughing and let the matter drop. The reason, no doubt, is that Ginkō is of a stout, heavy build, weighing more than twenty-three kan (about 86 kilograms). Written by Tententendō Ransen, a "fellow of the inkstone" at the same newspaper as old Ginkō.
