Tokyo Nichinichi Shimbun, No. 832 The Buddha's vow is a net that saves all the people of the world — and a certain villain fancied he had slipped clean through its mesh. But his scheming was as shallow as the name of Asakusa ("shallow grass") Temple, in whose precincts, in the Okuyama quarter, teahouses and archery galleries stand ranged like fish scales; and there among them he lay hidden. Officers, resolved to seize him — men who, like the bow-shaped moon, never miss their mark — broke in at midnight on the twentieth day of the month. Before their very eyes the man brandished a naked blade and offered resistance, but they made nothing of it: gripping anew the official staves in their hands, with dauntless courage and imposing bearing, they leapt in with a single mighty shout. At this onslaught the "rat-thieves" became, as their name suggests, so many drenched rats, and fell into panic like mice chased by a cat — a most gratifying sight.
