相州（相模国）江の島の弁才天女の廟（びょう）は、昔から七年ごとに開帳のあることは世間の人がよく知るところである。ところがこの亥年は、四月一日から五月二十日に至るまでの五十日間、臨時の大祭が執り行われるとのことである。これについて、この島に住む「一新講」の講社中で有名な旅館・ゑびす屋は、このほど新たに三階建ての高楼を建築した。その造りは日本風の建て方で、とりわけ間取りへの心配りをはじめ、諸々の設（しつら）えがみな風雅を尽くしている。この楼上から眺めれば、三浦・鎌倉・由比ヶ浜の風景が眼下に一望に集まり、富士は遥かに白く、箱根は近く緑である。空気は清らかで爽やかで健康を養うのによく、ことに海の幸に富んで美味なる肴（さかな）に事欠かない。ご参詣の方々はぜひお上がりになってお試しになるがよい。
近ごろ、この三階の楼上に掛けようというので、坂東彦三郎・中村芝翫・（尾上）菊五郎・（市川）左団次・（市川）団十郎・（岩井）半四郎らをはじめ、俳優十余人、そのほか作者・留場（とめば）などの名前を染め付けた暖簾（のれん）をこしらえ、ゑびす屋へ贈ろうと、もっぱらその用意の最中であるという。

It is well known to all the world that the shrine of the Goddess Benzaiten at Enoshima in Sōshū (Sagami Province) has, since ancient times, held its public unveiling of the image once every seven years. Now, in this Year of the Boar, it is said that an extraordinary grand festival will be held for fifty days, from the first day of the fourth month through the twentieth day of the fifth month. In connection with this, the inn Ebisuya — a famous member of the "Isshin-kō" lodging association resident on this island — has newly erected a three-storied tower building. Its construction is in the Japanese style, and beginning with the careful attention given to the arrangement of the rooms, every one of its appointments is done in the height of refined taste. Gazing out from the upper floor, one has gathered below one's eyes the scenery of Miura, Kamakura, and Yui-ga-hama; Mount Fuji is white in the far distance, and Hakone is green close at hand. The air is clean and bracing, such as to restore one's health, and the place is especially rich in the fruits of the sea, so that fine delicacies are never lacking. Visitors coming to worship should by all means go up and try it for themselves.
Lately, it is said, in order to hang it in this third-story hall, the actors Bandō Hikosaburō, Nakamura Shikan, (Onoe) Kikugorō, (Ichikawa) Sadanji, (Ichikawa) Danjūrō, and (Iwai) Hanshirō, together with more than ten other actors, as well as playwrights, tomeba (theatre ushers) and others, are having a noren curtain made dyed with their names, and are busily preparing to present it to Ebisuya.
