無之候故越後へ御帰り遊座殿へ御内談の御使候遊座殿御引入故
二度めのかけに七尾落城長殿の先祖府中の浜に何れも御ぢかい

故せいの内ゟ十三人のもの見衆是を見て筑前殿へ言上被仰遣候は
先祖之義に候間如庵先被参候へとの御事候如庵御被聞候能しん
るいノしるしに而無之候つれ仍而取合のかけまけたるしるしと相見申
もはや今日ひも暮合の御事に候 御旅宿可被成候哉宮こしゟ

赤坂まで越えて陣立てを取り、長殿を攻めたけれども落城しなかったため越後へ帰った。遊佐殿へ内談の使者を出した。遊佐殿が内応したため、二度目の攻撃で七尾が落城した。長殿の先祖は府中の浜で皆自害された。しかし四番目の子息如庵は信長公へ人質として江州安土に居住していたため、その命を免れることができた。信長は謙信の謀反をお聞きになって、羽柴筑前殿を大将として一万人とお命じになった。物見衆十三人を先に出し、如庵殿の案内で加賀国倉部の浜まで下向された。七尾勢はこれを聞き、落城の印を知らせるために長殿の自害の首を加賀国大野川の端まで持参し、雲門にかけ置いた。そのため勢の内から十三人の物見衆がこれを見て筑前殿へ言上申し上げたのは「先祖の義でございますから如庵が先に参上いたします」との事であった。如庵がお聞きになったのは「能臣類の印ではない。戦いの駆け引きで負けた印と見える。もはや今日も日暮れの事である。御旅宿をなされるでしょうか」宮腰から十町ほど上の里に御宿をされた。皆夜詰めに上がった。如庵は少し遠慮して夜詰めが過ぎてから上がられた。申し上げられたのは「先の死骸は私の親兄弟の死骸でございます。七尾落城は真実と存じます。先刻に申し上げたく思いましたが、御旗下が騒がしくなると存じ、今まで遠慮いたしました。明日はここより上方へお帰りと存じます。ながら私は先祖の死骸を取り隠し、御跡よりお供申し上げます」旨を申し上げた。筑前殿の御意は「長殿は数代武道手柄の家と伝え申すところ、いよいよただ今の如庵の心底と相違ない」との事であった。それより上方へ早々お帰りになった。兼信は七尾を取り納め、御城代には直江大和守を申し付けた。ただし昨今の落城の地であるから少し遠慮はあるとして、石動山五万灯の峰に仮旅屋を申し付け、これに居住すべきとの事であった。すなわち来目三助を守りに付け置いた。大宮坊に一宿されて越後へお帰りになった。ところが大和守は十七日患って死去した。その死骸を三介が越後へ担いで参ったところ、病中に御左右申し上げなかった義は無念の至りと思われ、三介に切腹を申し付けられた。その後七尾城代に有坂備中

They crossed to Akasaka and took up battle formation, attacking Lord Chō, but since the castle did not fall, they returned to Echigo. They sent an envoy for secret negotiations to Lord Yusa. Because Lord Yusa sided with them, Nanao castle fell on the second attack. Lord Chō's ancestors all committed suicide at the beach of Fuchū. However, the fourth son Jōan was serving as a hostage to Lord Nobunaga and was residing in Azuchi in Ōmi Province, so his life was spared. When Nobunaga heard of Kenshin's rebellion, he appointed Hashiba Chikuzen-no-kami as general with ten thousand men. Thirteen scouts were sent ahead, and with Jōan's guidance, they proceeded down to Kurabe Beach in Kaga Province. The Nanao forces, hearing this, brought the severed head of Lord Chō to the bank of Ōno River in Kaga Province to signal the castle's fall, and displayed it at Unmon. Therefore, thirteen scouts from within the forces saw this and reported to Lord Chikuzen: "As this concerns our ancestor, Jōan shall go first." What Jōan heard was: "This is not a sign of loyal retainers. It appears to be a sign of defeat in battle tactics. The day is already drawing to a close. Shall we take lodging?" They lodged at a village about ten chō upstream from Miyakoshi. Everyone went up for night duty. Jōan held back a little and went up after the night duty was over. He stated: "The corpses are those of my parents and brothers. I believe the fall of Nanao to be true. I wished to report this earlier, but thinking it would disturb the bannermen, I have refrained until now. Tomorrow I believe you will return to the capital from here. However, I will conceal my ancestors' corpses and follow behind you." Lord Chikuzen replied: "The Chō house has been known for generations as a family of martial valor, and indeed Jōan's present attitude is consistent with this." Then they quickly returned to the capital. Kaneshin took control of Nanao and appointed Naoe Yamato-no-kami as castle administrator. However, since it was recently fallen territory, there was some reservation, so he ordered a temporary residence to be built at the peak of Sekidōzan's fifty thousand lights, where he should reside. Kurume Sansuke was assigned as his guard. After staying one night at Daigūbō, he returned to Echigo. However, Yamato-no-kami fell ill for seventeen days and died. When Sansuke carried his corpse back to Echigo, [Kenshin] thought it inexcusable that no reports were made during his illness, and ordered Sansuke to commit seppuku. After that, Arisaka Bitchū became the Nanao castle administrator.
