- On the first day of the tenth month of the fourteenth year (Year of the Ox): A foreign vessel was sighted off the coast of Awa Province (Bōshū), and before dawn his entire unit deployed to Jogashima Island, withdrawing together on the eleventh day of the same month.
- In the twelfth month of the same year: His superior, Ibuka Denjirō, died of illness, and consequently he was transferred to Nagai Sakyō's unit.
- In the second month of the first year of Bunsei (Year of the Tiger): Having devoted himself diligently to military drills and training, he was awarded a newly forged spear (one shaft) as a commendation.
- In the third month of the same year: It was formally declared that he had served without neglect for seven years on coastal battery watch duty, from the previous Year of the Ram through the Year of the Ox.
- In the fourth month of the same year: As he had been engaged in numerous and busy artillery-related duties with attendant expenses, it was announced that he would be granted two man-hiki (萬疋) of gold per year as an expense supplement.
- In the fifth month of the same year: Having spent several days on duty at Jogashima Island and labored diligently when a foreign vessel arrived off the coast of Awa Province the previous autumn, he was granted sake as a commendation.
