However, as the foreign vessel set sail on the twentieth day, while he was standing by at a signaling position near Jogashima Island, he was temporarily appointed to the post of artillery crew supervisor at the coastal battery, and immediately took up his station there. On the twenty-fourth day, Fujisawa Yūgo was appointed to the artillery crew post and took up his station, and so he withdrew on that same day.
- In the seventh month of the same year: A foreign vessel was sighted off the coast of Awa Province (Bōshū), and his entire unit was ordered to maintain vigilance and readiness.
- In the tenth month of the same year: Takazu Sukenoshin proceeded to Kannonsaki, and in his absence was temporarily appointed acting unit commander (kari mononogashira).
- In the third month of the second year (Year of the Rabbit): After taking on responsibility for Sagami Province (Sōshū), foreign vessels drifted into the area on numerous occasions, and in the previous summer a foreign vessel came for the first time into the waters off the domain's territory. He responded with swift deployment, quickly pulling alongside the foreign vessel, beginning its escort and surveillance, serving also as artillery crew at the coastal battery, and performing his duties throughout. For this, he was awarded two bundles of cotton as a commendation, and it was also formally declared that he had shown diligence in his extraordinary duties.
- In the fourth month of the same year: It was conveyed to him that it had come to the attention of the lord that, during the seventh month of the previous year, when a foreign vessel arrived off Shirahama in Awa Province (Bōshū), his entire unit had shown commendable vigilance and had made their preparations swiftly and efficiently.
