五合ほど取り寄せ、右の桑の実を手の中に入れ、十分にもみつぶし、篩で茎を取り除く。ただし掃き下ろしを羽で掃いてはならない。出かかっている蚕が傷む理由である。

ここに大切な秘伝がある。まず継紙八枚ほどを用意して、その中へ種紙の前後を二人で持ち、竹の箸で種の裏を丁寧に村がないように打ち落とし、紙に蚕が取り付いた時分、その紙を振って種粒を落とし、その上に桑の実をたくさん振りかけ、羽でかき混ぜて手の中に入れる。種一枚分の蚕を横三尺、長さ四尺くらいの

ある籠の内に籾殻を敷き、その中に端から端まで蚕と蚕が触れないよう薄く振り散らし、むらを直してまた桑の実をかける。翌日より一日に一度ずつ蚕の尻を切り、それより桑の実を昼夜五度ずつかけるべきである。

たとえ古くなった桑の実があったとしても五度はかけてはならない。すなわち桑の実の水分を吸って育つものである。多くは一日に一度くらい命つなぎに与えておくものである。たとえば生まれた子に乳が不足するのは育ちが危ういものである。このように蚕の幼少期も同様である。ただし雨の時は

Prepare about five go of mulberry seeds, put them in your hands, crush them thoroughly, and use a sieve to remove the stems. However, do not sweep the hatched silkworms with a feather brush, as this will harm the emerging silkworms.

Here is an important secret technique. First prepare about eight sheets of backing paper. Two people should hold the front and back of the egg paper, and use bamboo chopsticks to gently tap the back of the paper so there are no clusters, dropping them evenly. When the silkworms attach to the paper, shake the paper to drop off any remaining egg particles, then sprinkle plenty of mulberry seeds on top, mix with a feather brush, and put in your hands. Place the silkworms from one sheet of eggs in a basket about three shaku wide and four shaku long.

Spread rice chaff inside the basket, then scatter the silkworms thinly from end to end so that they don't touch each other, smooth out any clusters, and sprinkle mulberry seeds again. From the next day, cut the silkworms' rear ends once daily, and thereafter give mulberry seeds five times day and night.

Even if you have old mulberry seeds available, you must not give them five times. The silkworms grow by absorbing moisture from the mulberry seeds.
