第十六 新宅（しんたく）にて養育（やういく）の事
新宅は諸（しよ）人さむきものと心得（こゝろへ）る事 間違（まちがひ）なり
猶（なを）新宅は昼（ひる）の内 萱根（かやね）より天日のさし込（こみ）強（つよく）
夜の四時まではほなふさめずして上棚（うはたな）の蚕ほど
たちまちふそろひになりのこらず滅（めつする）もの也
惣して新宅にては渋紙（しぶかみ）にて天井（てんぜう）を高張（たかくはり）夜（よ）あけ
かたより四時までさむさをしのぎ昼（ひる）まへより
下 棚（たな）へ蚕をおろし其上西北高 窓（まと）或（あるひ）は仕切〳〵
の戸ものこらず明て置べし又屋根ふきかへ

たる家（いへ）も同前なり多（おほく）はさし萱（かや）にてをき
屋根（やね）かへをすべからず但し新宅は前〳〵
より種数（たねかず）をへらし鴨居（かもゐ）より下（した）通りにて

心付しんとより下（した）通り仕切（しきり）〳〵の壁地（かべぢ）は木舞（こまひ）
にてをき土をつけべからず其外 一間（ひとま）〳〵に
桁（けた）より鴨居（かもゐ）の間（あひだ）に北南（きたみなみ）吹（ふき）とをしの高窓（たかまど）を
あけ昼（ひる）よりのこらず明け置べし但し蚕の

第十六 新築の家での養蚕について
新築の家は一般の人が寒いものと理解しているが、これは間違いである。
むしろ新築の家は昼間、茅葺きの根元から天日が強く差し込み、
夜の午後10時頃まで熱が冷めずに、上の棚の蚕ほど
たちまち不揃いになり、残らず全滅してしまうものである。
総じて新築の家では渋紙で天井を高く張り、夜明け
頃から午後10時まで寒さをしのぎ、昼前から
下の棚へ蚕を下ろし、その上で西北の高窓や仕切りの
戸を全て開けて置くべきである。また屋根を葺き替えた

家も同様である。多くは差し茅で済ませ、
屋根の全面葺き替えをすべきではない。ただし新築の家は以前から
種の数を減らし、鴨居より下の部分で
飼うべきである。また蚕を飼う前に建てた家などは
注意して新築時から下の部分で、仕切りの壁地は木舞
のままにして土を塗るべきではない。その他、各部屋に
桁から鴨居の間に南北の風通しの高窓を
開け、昼からは全て開けておくべきである。ただし蚕飼いを
念頭に置いて家を建てる時には横幅を広く

Chapter 16: On Silkworm Rearing in New Houses
It is a mistake for ordinary people to understand that new houses are cold.
Rather, in new houses, during the day, sunlight penetrates strongly through the base of the thatched roof,
and the heat does not dissipate until around 10 PM at night, causing the silkworms on the upper shelves
to immediately become uneven and all perish without exception.
Generally, in new houses, one should stretch oiled paper high on the ceiling, endure the cold from dawn
until around 10 PM, and from before noon,
move the silkworms down to the lower shelves. Moreover, all the northwest high windows and partition
doors should be left open. Also, houses with re-thatched roofs

are the same. In most cases, one should use patch-thatching
and not completely re-thatch the roof. However, for new houses, one should
reduce the number of silkworm varieties from before and
raise them in the area below the lintel. Also, for houses built before raising silkworms,
one should be careful from the time of new construction to use the lower areas, and the partition walls should be left as
wooden lathing without applying earth plaster. In addition, in each room,
high windows for north-south ventilation should be opened between the girders and lintels,
and all should be kept open from midday. However, when building a house with silkworm rearing
in mind, the horizontal space should be made wide.
