桁下（けたした）高（たか）く内に壁地（かべぢ）をなく西北（にしきた）はのこらず
雨戸（あまど）にして剛暑（かうしよ）のとき戸をはづし家内（けない）

竹前手寄にて掃立べし新宅の小葉養（こばかい）

掃立より舟迄は北風（きたかぜ）の吹（ふき）入れあしき二階（にかい）に

桁の下を高くし、内部に壁を作らず、西北は全て
雨戸にして、猛暑の時は戸を外し、家の中が
一面に開放されるように注意すべきである。なお、新築の年は
竹製の前手寄（養蚕用の道具）で掃立を行うべきである。新築での小葉飼い
は、その心得もなくては危険なものである。
第十七 二階での養蚕について
掃立から舟（蚕の成長段階）まで、北風の吹き込みが悪い二階では
飼うべきではない。根拠もなく養育する時には
常に桑から離れないようにして飼うべきである。ただし

庭起きには桑を与えて二日ほどは薄く度々
与え、三日目からだんだんと厚く掛ける。もう四日目の
夕方の桑からは食べ残さないと思うほど掛け、それから
二日に一度ずつ蚕の敷物を取り替えるべきである。蚕の敷物が高い（厚い）と
蚕の色が悪くなり、繭さえ作らずに糸が立たない
ものとなる。また家が低く暖かな二階
では庭前（庭起き）を上げるべきではない。庭から桑を与える次第で
上げるべきである。また二階に蚕を置いて、下で火を強く
焚くべきではない。なお、照りが強い南風などの時、桑を

Chapter 17: On Silkworm Rearing on the Second Floor
From hatching to the "boat" stage (a growth phase of silkworms), one should not
raise silkworms on a second floor where north winds blow in unfavorably. When rearing
without proper basis, one should always keep them close to mulberry leaves. However,

For yard-starting, give mulberry leaves thinly and frequently for about two days
after providing mulberry, and from the third day gradually apply them thickly. From the fourth day's
evening mulberry feeding onward, apply so much that they won't leave any uneaten, and thereafter
change the silkworms' bedding once every two days. When the silkworm bedding is too high (thick),
the silkworms' color becomes poor, and they cannot even make cocoons, becoming unable to produce silk
threads. Also, in low, warm second floors,
yard-preparation should not be elevated. Depending on how mulberry is given from the yard,
it should be raised accordingly. Also, when placing silkworms on the second floor, one should not
