現代語訳
江戸で大地震があった。それより十一年を経て、百十二代・後西帝、寛文二年・壬寅（みずのえとら）五月一日に地震があり、東山の豊国廟が崩れた。それより二十二年を経て、百十三代・霊元帝、天和三年・癸亥（みずのえい）四月五日、下野の日光山（にて地震があり）、同時に江戸でも大地震があった。同年十月、大隅国で地震があり、海が陸となった。それより二十年を経て、百十四代・東山帝、元禄十六年・癸未（みずのとひつじ）十一月二十三日、関東大地震があり、その後二百余日にわたって揺れが続いたという。それより三年を経て、宝永四年・丁亥（ひのとい）六月十八日、下野の猿ヶ股の土手が大地に沈み込むこと数十丈——

元暦二年（すなわち文治元年にあたる）・乙巳、秋七月九日、午の刻（正午ごろ）、山城国の大地が裂けて大いに揺れた。このとき、岡崎の法勝寺の八角九重の塔と三十三間堂が十七間まで震え倒れた。——『平家物語』に見える。

In the second year of Genryaku (which is the same as the first year of Bunji), the year of *Kinoto-Mi* (乙巳), on the ninth day of the seventh month in autumn, at the Hour of the Horse (around noon), the earth of Yamashiro Province cracked open and there was a great earthquake.
