現代語訳
江戸大地震。それより十一年経て、第百十二代後西帝の寛文二年壬寅（1662年）五月朔日に地震があり、東山の豊国廟が壊れた。それより二十二年経て、第百十三代霊元帝の天和三年癸亥（1683年）四月五日、下野国日光山で地震があった。同時に江戸でも大地震があった。同年十月には大隅国で地震があり、海が陸地となった。それより二十年を経て、第百十四代東山帝の元禄十六年癸未（1703年）十一月二十三日に関東大地震があり、その後二百余日にわたって余震が続いたという。それより三年を経て、宝永四年丁亥（1707年）六月十八日、下野国猿ヶ股の土手が大地に数十丈も陥没した。
元暦二年（すなわち文治元年、1185年）乙巳の秋七月九日午刻、山城国で大地が裂けて大きく震動した。このとき岡崎法勝寺の八角九重塔と三十三間堂の十七間までが震動で倒壊した。平家物語に記載されている。

Great Earthquake in Edo. Eleven years later, in the first year of Kanbun under the 112nd Emperor Go-Sai, on the first day of the fifth month of Mizunoe-Tora (1662), there was an earthquake and the Toyokuni Shrine in Higashiyama was destroyed. Twenty-two years later, in the third year of Tenna under the 113rd Emperor Reigen, on the fifth day of the fourth month of Mizunoe-I (1683), there was an earthquake at Mount Nikko in Shimotsuke Province. At the same time, there was also a great earthquake in Edo. In the tenth month of the same year, there was an earthquake in Osumi Province where the sea became land. Twenty years later, in the sixteenth year of Genroku under the 114th Emperor Higashiyama, on the twenty-third day of the eleventh month of Mizunoe-Hitsuji (1703), there was a great earthquake in the Kanto region, and it is said that aftershocks continued for more than two hundred days thereafter. Three years later, in the fourth year of Hoei, Hinoto-I (1707), on the eighteenth day of the sixth month, the embankment at Sarugamata in Shimotsuke Province sank dozens of fathoms into the earth.
In the second year of Genryaku (that is, the first year of Bunji, 1185), Kinoto-Mi, on the ninth day of the seventh month in autumn at the hour of the horse, the earth split greatly and shook violently in Yamashiro Province. At this time, the octagonal nine-story pagoda of Hoshoji Temple in Okazaki and seventeen bays of Sanjusangendo collapsed from the tremors. This is recorded in the Tale of the Heike.
