On the fourth day of the tenth month of the same year, there was a great earthquake in Osaka, and it is said that those crushed to death formed mountains. At this time, blue mud welled up along the coasts of Kishū, Mikawa, Tōtōmi, and Ise, tsunamis arose, and the dead were counted in the tens of thousands. On the twenty-second day of the same month, Mount Fuji shook and ash fell on the neighboring provinces. Eighteen years passed from that, and in the reign of the one hundred and fifteenth emperor, Emperor Nakamikado, on the twenty-sixth day of the ninth month of the seventeenth year of Kyōhō, there were more than eighty tremors in Nagasaki in Hizen Province, both day and night. In the eleventh year of the same era, the year of *Hinoe-Uma* (丙午), on the night of the nineteenth day of the third month, Benkeigadake in Katsuyama in Echizen shook, and two masses of rock, each approximately eighteen *ken* square, flew a distance of two *ri* and eight *chō*, damming a great river. Floods overflowed and the number of people and livestock who perished was beyond count. At that time, two villages of more than three hundred houses at the foot of the mountain became pools of mud. Twenty-five years later, in the reign of the one hundred and seventeenth emperor, Emperor Momozono, on the twenty-ninth day of the second month of the first year of Hōreki, the year of *Kanoto-Hitsuji* (辛未), there was a great earthquake in Kyoto, causing especially widespread destruction, and it is said that tremors continued until the seventh month thereafter. On the twenty-fifth day of the fourth month of the same year, there was an earthquake in Takada in Echigo Province; from the Hour of the Rooster to the Hour of the Ox, there were more than thirty tremors, mountains and houses collapsed, and the dead numbered more than sixteen thousand. In the sixth year of the same era, at Umeda in Osaka (which is a burial ground), a service of ten thousand lanterns (*mantō kuyō*) was held by various Buddhist sects for the fiftieth memorial of those who died in the fourth year of Hōei. Twenty-one years later, in the reign of the one hundred and eighteenth emperor, Empress Gosakuramachi, on the twenty-eighth day of the first month of the third year of Meiwa, the year of *Hinoe-Inu* (丙戌), there was a great earthquake in the vicinity of Aomori in Tsugaru, Ōshū, accompanied by a tsunami, and people perished.
