を訪ねる者は、皆陣笠や胸当てを着けて奔走している。地震は初めの時のようではないが、ただゴロゴロと鳴って震えることが短時間に数回。およそ翌三日の朝までに百二十余回震えたという。そのため、この夜は家々の馬丁が提灯を灯して大道で夜を明かした。こうして三日の朝は空が晴れ渡り、日光が明らかであったので、さすがに大道での生活も見苦しいということで、それぞれが家に入って、ようやくわずかにその破損を修繕する。この日も地震が震うことはやまず、およそ一時（二時間）に七、八回から十回にも及ぶ。この夕方も七時頃より同じく、今宵も大道で夜を明かそうと、畳を並べ屏風を立て、上には雨覆いを作った。町幅の狭い所には向かい合わせに互いに縄を張り、竹を渡して、上には筵や合羽などを引き被せ、皆々前夜のように夜を守る。また恐怖の甚だしい者は市中にいるのは危険だとして、東山の野辺、あるいは鴨川原、西の野に席を設け、食器を運び出して難を逃れる人も非常に多い。この夜、暁方にわずかに雨が降ったが、朝になって晴れた。地震が震えることは少し穏やかになったといっても、一時に六、七回に及ぶ。この夜もなお

Though the earthquakes are not as severe as the initial one, they continue to rumble and shake several times within short intervals. It is said that from that time until the morning of the third day, there were over 120 tremors. Therefore, this night the stable hands of each household lit lanterns and spent the night on the main roads. Thus, when the morning of the third day dawned clear with bright sunlight, people felt that living on the roads was unseemly, so each returned to their homes and finally began to make modest repairs to the damage.
