従来僧位僧官等永ク
宣旨ヲ候テ諸寺院ゟ差許置候分自今総而
被廃止候条此旨相心得於府県管内寺院江
可相違候事
壬申二月 太政官
村吏之称呼是迄区々相成居候処自今名主
役組頭役百姓代与相唱可申吏ニ此旨相達候事

従来の僧位僧官等は永く宣旨を待って諸寺院から差し許し置いた分について、今後は総て廃止する。この旨を心得て、府県管内の寺院に相違えることのないよう伝達すること。
壬申二月 太政官
村吏の称呼はこれまで区々に定まっていたが、今後は名主役、組頭役、百姓代と唱えるべき吏にこの旨を伝達すること。

Regarding the monk ranks and monk officials that have traditionally been granted through imperial edicts from various temples for a long time, all such positions shall be abolished from now on. Please understand this directive and ensure it is communicated without fail to all temples within the prefectural jurisdictions.
2nd month of Jinshin (1872) Council of State (Daijōkan)
The titles of village officials have varied inconsistently until now, but henceforth they shall be called Village Headman (nanushi-yaku), Group Leader (kumigashira-yaku), and Peasant Representative (hyakushō-dai). This directive is to be communicated to these officials.
