附言
居ながらにして異域の境を知ることは、これ歌人の性（さが）ではないけれども、この書を買い覧するに甚だ面白く、されば（某の）秘蔵するところのものを乞い得て写し得ること、形のごとく一冊となりて、また序を方隠先生に願いて、もって玩素（がんそ）の一物となさしめる。
時に嘉永の丑の年、弥生中旬

Postscript
Though it is not in the nature of a poet to come to know the affairs of foreign lands while remaining at home, I found this book exceedingly interesting upon purchasing and reading it. Therefore, I obtained permission to copy what had been kept as a private treasure, and having duly completed the copying, the volume took its proper form as a single book. I further requested a preface from Master Hōin, thereby making it an object of refined personal enjoyment.
Written in the middle of the third month (Yayoi), in the Year of the Ox of the Kaei era.
